Interstice 1
Interstice 1 is a sculptural wall mirror in solid bleached sycamore with hand-silvered glass. The frame is hand-carved; its surface moves between undulating folds and taut ridges, organic in feeling, architectural in structure. Bleached to bone-white, the sycamore holds a stillness that reads simultaneously as living and inert; up close, the grain reveals itself, the fabric-like folds following the natural movement of the wood.
The hand-silvered glass, created in collaboration with Mirror Works, does not return a true image. It returns something altered; a world that looks a little unreal. A mirror is already a threshold object, neither the room nor its reflection, but the space between. Interstice 1 makes that condition its subject.
